Brazil is not for laymen
Among the several memorable phrases, Tom Jobim said (learn more about Tom Jobim at the end of this article)*, the one above is striking for the broad context it fits in.
Tom Jobim probably referred to the fact that things in Brazil are not as simple as in other parts of the world. Simplify is not always a very recurrent word used in our nation.
On the other hand, experts say that football or soccer has been or was (we can debate on that later) successful here because of having very simple rules that are easy to understand and apply.
Therefore, we come across another paradox about our country; we enjoy simple things but constantly aggregate to simplicity so that it will not look simple, then outsiders will see things as incredulous, complex and why not say, unproductive.
Accordingly, those with that opinion are totally right. From the foreigner’s point of view, we are joyful people and we have a complicated country whenever our legislation or even our daily routines are at stake. Nevertheless, to our eyes already used to all of it, everything seems so simple.
Check this out, things have worked like that since the Portuguese Empire; we even had a Deregulation Ministry in the 1980’s that took long to be launched due to so much bureaucracy and was soon extinguished.
The pharmaceutical market does not differ. When an outsider bears in mind that we are happy people, the first thing they presume is that regarding Health issues we are not regulated.
When they find out we have rules, they cannot understand the processes, however complex they are. I do not only mean the regulatory agency but also
the opening of a legal entity (let us accept it has improved immensely) without forgetting our tax system which shall drive you crazy without delay.
Another extremely important issue is the exchange rate – it is so tough to forecast. It was said once that a prize would be offered to be disputed between meteorologists and economist aimed at figuring out who commits less mistakes (they thought of offering a prize for the one who better predicts, but they most probably would tie).
Don’t worry if you are not used to Brazil. Don’t give up bringing your business to Brazil. You will find on our site demographic data and information on the pharmaceutical market. Notice that we are a huge country and have a great potential. And, certainly, we are happy people!
